FRESHMAN/ SOPHOMORE CONSULTATION

While premature for actual college planning, an early consultation can help focus on academic achievement, curriculum selection, extracurricular activities and volunteer experiences.  I want my students to have a life in high school that develops their interests and abilities to the fullest.  Opportunities for summer experiences can also be discussed.  Follow up conversations throughout the year can help clarify progress toward the goals set in the initial meeting.

FULL SERVICE COLLEGE CONSULTATION

The College Consultation begins with a comprehensive interview focusing on the student’s academic record and curricular choices, as well as the current profile of interests, school activities and other experiences.  Discussion about the student’s college selection criteria includes academic interests, geographic and environmental preferences.  Summer study or work options are fully explored.

An individualized college plan is created for each student starting with initial college suggestions for research and campus visits.  Plans are also developed for testing including SAT, ACT, AP exams and English language tests for international students.  Later conversations will focus on interviewing techniques and the themes for essays.

Work on college applications and essays begin early in the summer before senior year.  Brainstorming topics and discussions about each student’s narrative precede actual essay production.  Every essay is reviewed with comments for enhancing content and presentation.  Each application is also reviewed.

By the fall of senior year, students have developed a timetable for applications and an admissions strategy that considers all application options, including Early Decision, Early Action, Regular and Rolling Admission.

Our support continues throughout the application process until each student has selected a college to attend.
